HAMILTON, ON – Cardus, a leading think tank, has appointed Joanna DeJong VanHof as the new Program Director for Cardus Education. In her new role, Joanna will lead strategic efforts to study and offer policy options that enhance educational pluralism, excellence, and graduate outcomes across North America.

Joanna brings a wealth of experience and a deep commitment to educational pluralism. She started working at Cardus as a researcher in 2021 and since then has authored or co-authored five education-related reports, among other work. Prior to joining Cardus, Joanna served in various leadership capacities within the independent education sector, where she championed innovative approaches to curriculum development and educational policy.

“This is an exciting time for Cardus Education, with lots of opportunities ahead,” said Lisa Richmond, Vice President of Research at Cardus. “Joanna’s extensive background in education leadership, coupled with her nuanced thinking and research skills, makes her an ideal fit for this role. Joanna’s leadership will be critical as Cardus continues to produce research and policy to support the flourishing of students and schools.”

As program director, Joanna will work closely with stakeholders, policymakers, and leaders in education to create solutions that improve every child’s access to a quality education that aligns with their unique needs and aspirations.

“I am honoured to take on this new role,” said Joanna DeJong VanHof. “It will be exciting to work with colleagues committed to educational pluralism and excellence. I really believe we can advance policies and practices that equip families and strengthen our education system.”

Joanna is a PhD student in educational leadership and policy at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education, from which she holds a master’s degree in education. Her insights and leadership will be a key part of Cardus Education’s efforts to provide thought leadership and research that shape the future of education policy in North America.
